Helping Yourself LearnSupport yourself
Illustration by Rosalind B. Penfold, author of Dragonslippers. Hold onto hopePhotos by Debbie Lifshen and Judy Murphy Be gentle with yourself
Comfort yourselfYou could find pictures or make a collage that gives you joy or helps you feel better when you are feeling down. Students at Parkdale Project Read made these collages for themselves. * If you hold your cursor over a slide, it will not change to the next picture until you remove it. Calm yourselfTrying to learn new things can be very stressful. Stressful situations can become even worse when we put ourselves down, blame ourselves for everything that is going wrong, or let our anxieties get out-of-hand. Some practical strategies can help us calm down. Visualization, positive-self talk, thought-stopping and meditation can all be useful. Chapter 5 from: Living with Stress by Judy Murphy. Edmonton: Grass Roots Press, 2005. |
